“I would like to stay anonymous even though my son knows the story. I got pregnant at 16 and it was my first sexual experience. I didn't want to keep the baby as I knew it would stop me from furthering my studies. A guy offered to help me in going to Sicily and having an abortion. I gave him 500 Maltese liras and he never showed up for our appointment. I couldn’t report him as, obviously, it was illegal! So, I didn’t have the abortion and I'm happy I didn't do it because now I have a 23-year-old son whom, of course, I love to death. However, I am still pro-choice because every woman has the right to decide what to do with her body.”
